Background and Training
Lori Chortkoff Hops, Ph.D., DCEP is a Licensed Psychologist, with a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She is certified as a Diplomate in Comprehensive Energy Psychology (see www.energypsych.org for more information). She provides psychotherapy to individuals, families and young people. Dr. Hops’ practices are based in conventional western empirical science, and wisdom traditions from around the world, including holistic systems, energy practices and use of intuition and inner guidance. Dr. Hops also uses techniques from Logosynthesis, cognitive behavioral, family systems, developmental, and psychodynamic approaches to healing with her clients.
Energy Psychology is an emerging field of study, with more than one hundred published peer-reviewed research papers, on anxiety, trauma, depression, weight control, and other topics. Energy Psychology also fosters positive states of mental health, allowing clients to move from surviving to thriving. Clients learn to apply self-care techniques, using natural healing from energy channels in the body including meridians, chakras and biofields, while practicing cognitive approaches. The mind and body relax, allowing a natural state of wellness to emerge. Dr. Hops is a Reiki Master, a mind body and spirit approach to healing that fosters harmony and balance through universal life force energy. Reiki can be used in person, or at a distance, similar to prayer.
Dr. Hops teaches live and online seminars and workshops on developing intuition. She has also taught in the US and abroad to professionals, students and the general public about compassion, self-care, spiritual practice, and finding meaning in life. Dr. Hops serves as President-Elect (2020) on the Executive Board of Directors for the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP).
Dr. Hops attended the University of Houston, Texas (Ph.D. and M.A.; APA accredited) with an emphasis in Child and Family psychotherapy. Her undergraduate degree was in Experimental Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (Cum Laude, High Honors). She also completed an APA accredited Internship at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Department of Psychiatry Los Angeles, CA. She is a registrant with the National Register of Health Service Providers.
