Background and Training
Lori Hops, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist, with a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She provides psychotherapy to individuals, families and children. Dr. Hops practices Integrative Mental Health, drawing from conventional western empirical science, and wisdom traditions from around the world, including holistic systems, energy practices and use of intuition and inner guidance. Dr. Hops also uses techniques from cognitive behavioral, family systems, developmental, and psychodynamic approaches to healing with her clients.
Dr. Hops is completing studies for certification as a Diplomate in Comprehensive Energy Psychology (see www.energypsych.org for more information). Energy Psychology is an emerging field of study, with more than fifty published peer-reviewed research papers, on anxiety, trauma, weight control, and other topics. Energy Psychology also fosters positive states of mental health, allowing clients to move from surviving to thriving. Clients learn to apply self-care techniques, using natural healing from energy channels in the body including meridians, chakras and biofields, while practicing cognitive behavioral approaches. The mind and body relax, allowing a natural state of wellness to emerge. Dr. Hops is a Reiki Master, a mind body and spirit approach to healing that fosters harmony and balance through universal life force energy. Reiki can be used in person, or at a distance, similar to prayer.
Dr. Hops teaches seminars and workshops on topics such as self-care, developing intuition, laughter therapy, and finding meaning in life to mental health professionals, students, and the general public. Dr. Hops serves as Secretary on the Executive Board of Directors (2016-2017) for the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP). She is on the Board of Directors of Gift of Life Los Angeles, a rotary based charity providing heart surgeries and health care to children from El Salvador.
Dr. Hops attended the University of Houston, Texas (Ph.D. and M.A.; APA accredited) with an emphasis in Child and Family psychotherapy. Her undergraduate degree was in Experimental Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (Cum Laude, High Honors). She also completed an APA accredited Internship at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Department of Psychiatry Los Angeles, CA.
